Švyturys Ekstra beer from Lithuania from now has the right to call itself the best beer in the world of Dortmunder lager style. The Klaipėda brewery beer was awarded a Gold medal at the most prestigious World Beer Cup competition in May 2012.
Švyturys Ekstra beat 38 competitors in the Dortmunder/European-Style Export or German-Style Oktoberfest category from all over the world. The Lithuanian beer performed better than many brewers from Germany, the homeland of Dormunder/European Export style, winning Gold Medal at the World Beer Cup 2012.
“A brewer who wins a World Beer Cup gold award knows that his beer represents the best of that beer style in the world,” said Barbara Fusco, Sales & Marketing Director of the Brewers Association, the U.S.-based trade association that has put on the competition every two years since 1996. “It’s called ‘The Olympics of Beer Competition’ for good reason – the event brings together great brewers from all corners of the globe. World Beer Cup experts each year look for a world class beer that accurately exemplifies the specified style, displaying the proper balance of taste, aroma and appearance.”
“World Beer Cup gold – a special award which gives us a right that Ekstra is the best beer of his class in the world – was attained by paying the highest attention to quality control at our brewery. Brewing of the best Dortmunder / European Export lager was due to the fact that this beer is brewed in the most natural way, with highest ecological standards for its ingredients,” says Rolandas Viršilas, the CEO at Švyturys-Utenos alus.
Švyturys Ekstra is brewed from water, malted barley with some rice added to mash, superior noble hops from Bavarian Hallertau and Spalt regions and carefully selected brewer‘s yeast.
The World Beer Cup is held every two years – Švyturys Ekstra has already won its first silver at World Beer Cup 2000.
